Dr. Khakwani earned his medical degree from Baqai Medical University, one of the oldest Private Medical Institutes in the country and finished top 20 in his class. He then completed his USMLE exams and joined Newark Beth Israel Medical Center as a research assistant where he worked for 1 year publishing numerous papers in the field of Cardiology. He then joined Jersey City Medical Center for his Internal Medicine residency where he was voted as Most Outstanding Resident and Chief Resident. Given his passion for Cardiology he then joined Newark Beth Israel Medical Center for his Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology fellowships and was appointed as the Associate Chief Fellow and Chief Fellow in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology

Dr. Khakwani's appetite for research led him to publish many papers in the field of Alternate Access, large bore access, hybrid closure techniques, Takosubto and SCAD associations, peripheral atherectomy devices and embolic events, aortic arch type implications for TAVR and alternate access. He has presented articles during many meetings including ACC, TCT and ESC. Dr Khakwani was trained at NBIMC which is the nation's top TAVR and Cardiac Transplant centers and gained exposure in Peripheral Interventions for lower extremities, high risk PCIs using Intra-Aortic balloon pumps and Impella, TAVR for aortic valve disease, Alcohol Septal ablations and Renal artery Interventions.
